I'm not sure how exactly it works, but I think that especially for younger or inexperienced guys, there's a kind of herd mentality for what's attractive.
Like, it doesn't matter if a guy's into this woman (whether or not she's even a decent person doesn't matter,) but if his friends want to bang her and are jealous of him, then he's a super stud and wins at life.
